You’ve Been Scammed is a new BBC One series that highlights common scams that take place every day in the UK. On the 21st November (BBC1 at 9.15 am) “You’ve Been Scammed” looks into the plight of literally 1,000’s of people who have been ripped off by dodgy HGV training brokers.
The series is presented by Matthew Alright (famous for Rogue Traders and Watchdog.)
The first step involved in the HGV career ladder is obtaining an HGV driving licence and this is where the rip off tends to happen. The program explains that dodgy HGV training brokers are NOT real HGV training companies and that dodgy training brokers give the overwhelming impression they are a national provider with training centres all around the UK.
Customers are often misinformed, mislead and miss sold, parting with up to £3,000 a time. Dodgy brokers will promise the world yet deliver next to nothing leaving unexpected and well intentioned customers out of pocket and without training.
We sincerely hope the program will educate and inform as many people as possible about the hazards of using a broker and the benefits of going direct to a reputable training provider. We also hope it will encourage rather than deter any new entrants out there who are considering a career as an LGV driver.
